I worked for Methodist Homes for the Aged for 11 years as an Ecumenical Chaplain supporting older adults living with physical impairments and dementia to access and share their faith or spirituality. I took a weekly Service of the Word or Communion Service, led Wellbeing walks and ran a Newspaper group every Thursday. I was responsible for spiritual assessments of residents and spiritual support when dealing with bereavements or changes in health and mobility. I would complete an End of Life review with each resident to find out how the individual would like to be cared for towards the end of their life and their funeral wishes. I provided 1-2-1 support for older adults, carers and family members to talk about depression, anxiety or spiritual health matters.
I developed Biblical Yoga - a worship style which is now used across the UK in Care Homes. In 2018 I won an award for most Innovative Project of the year. I also wrote a Dementia accessible Bible and created Booklets of Sexuality and Relationships and End of Life that were dementia friendly accessible resources that were used to help individuals living with dementia to express their wishes.
