Professional and Personal Development
Edducation has always been important to me and I thrive on learning new things and having a challenge. I started Open University at the age of 18 while working full-time as a Receptionist and Duty Manager at a Hotel in Cornwall. When I started my Degree I started a new job at a Secondary School in Hull working 30 hours a week as a Laboratory Technician. In the final year of my degree I started teaching ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) for Adult Education Family Learning (2 hours a week). Working alongside my degree was challenging and a great deal of time management was necessary, however it enabled me to pay my mortgage and save into an ISA while also giving me three years of work experience to add to my CV.
Since leaving full time education I have always sought out opportunities to improve my skills and gain further qualifications. I have always enjoyed learning new things and have discovered that subjects overlap and the skills you learn from one course can be used in other areas of life. I have found many uses for counselling skills and enterprise skills in my work as a Chaplain.
